Bladder Cancer Showing Up More in Women

Persistent urinary tract problems could signal cancer in women. The most likely cause for bladder cancer among women is smoking…but there are other reasons, too.

Statistics show only about 25% of bladder cancer patients are women, but that number is growing according to urologist Jeffrey Holzbeierlein, MD (holes-ber-line). Karla Boatright, a non-smoker, thought she had a chronic urinary tract infection when she was diagnosed with cancer. She received a ‘new bladder’ created through an innovative surgery. Dr. Holzbeierlein explains symptoms and causes of bladder cancer.
